Musiqtone.com is an online music news & media outlet that was founded on September 22, 2002 at Indiana's Purdue University by alum Alan Ho and former student Peter Burke. The outlet, originally named MusicMania was borne out of an accidental English 101 project in which the professor had forgotten his lesson planner and proceeded to teach his students, of which Alan and Peter were in how to build a website on the school's provided network space for every student. The site aimed at bringing a balanced focus into the music world, adding indie coverage in 2003, launching what is The Critics Corner shortly after and launching what is today The Hot Seat in 2005. MusicMania became Musiqtone.com on February 8, 2005.
Today Musiqtone.com
still strives for that "balanced focus" and remains one of the few outlets combining coverage into the indie and underground alongside it's still-growing major and mid-major label coverage. The outlet provides a slew of in-depth interviews with the hottest bands and acts as well as showcasing indie and underground acts, album and concert reviews and showcases a vast array of music videos, music specials, album release parties which gives today's diversified music fan a one-stop drive through the world of music.
While Musiqtone is primarily delivered over the internet, both desktop and now on all smartphones and select feature phones (2.8 in and above screen), the outlet's main base is considered to be the Chicago northwest suburb of Hoffman Estates, Illinois, the home of the Sears Centre and former The Academy Is frontman William Beckett. Regional bases are in downtown Chicago on the campus of Columbia College and in Charlotte, North Carolina.
