The Writeup
Start with the music of Tori Amos, mix it with angst from Alanis Morrisette, throw in some of the playful spunk from Liz Phair, and then for good measure add a little Vanessa Carlton and you get a wonderful talent recently found on Myspace.com.

She already has sold over a thousnad albums and 3,000 downloads to her fans all over the world and you can get her music on your Verizon phone on V-Cast and at your local Starbucks.

And for tasty icing on the cake, you may have heard her music played on the now defunct WB shows 'Related' and 'Pepper Dennis.' Perhaps you might hear her on CW shows someday as well.

Who is she? She is Arden Kaywin and she is a You Gotta Know for the month of October.

Bio- Arden Kaywin

Arden Kaywin is a passionate vocalist and evocative songwriter whose acclaimed 2006 debut album, Quarter Life Crisis, has charmed music lovers across the country with its pop/rock musings on life, love and twenty-something angst. Quarter Life Crisis, was written 100% by Arden, produced by Rudy Haeusermann (Lisa Marie Presley, Kimberly Locke), and mixed by Grammy nominee Rob Jacobs (Shakira, Alanis Morissette, Bon Jovi). It was officially released on February 22, 2006 and is available in all major online retail outlets. Since then Arden has sold over 1000 albums and over 3000 downloads to fans worldwide.

Quarter Life Crisis is an ode to a journey taken by Arden herself. “My album is called Quarter Life Crisis because I was going through such a crisis myself when I wrote it. I had too many unanswered questions in my life.” These are the same questions many young adults ask themselves after they have left college and realize that the real world is not what they expected. It was during this critical period of change that the songs from Quarter Life Crisis were written.

The CD opens with the radio track, “Me With Me” which was recently nominated by the Independent Music Awards for Pop Song of the Year. The song is also considered to be one that particularly stood out for Arden during her time of transition. “It was written after I’d finally started enjoying being single again. So in a way it’s a song about empowerment.” In addition to her nod for Pop Song of the Year, Arden has also been nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year by the 2005 Los Angeles Music Awards.

Arden’s music gathers many influences. “When I was a child, I was obsessed with Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. Then in high school I discovered artists like Tori Amos, Dave Matthews Band, and the Indigo Girls. That’s when I fell in love with songwriting as a craft.” During that time, Arden studied classical music and attended the prestigious Oberlin Conservatory of Music and the renowned Manhattan School of Music. After a while it became clear that the classical world was not where Arden’s passion and future were destined. “When you’re studying classically, it’s kind of taboo to be playing or singing pop music because the technique is so different”, she says. “There I was in class perfecting Mozart, only to go home and write pop songs that nobody knew about”. So Arden decided it was time to follow her dream and move to Los Angeles to tackle the world of pop music.

Arden explains the overall recording process and what Quarter Life Crisis means to her. “I’m very lucky that I am able to write about these experiences. My hope is that those who listen will relate, and they’ll find some comfort in knowing that they’re not the only ones out there going through a tough time figuring themselves out, because in the end, it’s these obstacles and experiences that make life more interesting.”

Since its release, Quarter Life Crisis has found a spot on many editor's choice lists. Smother.net named Arden’s Album an Editor’s Pick alongside Coldplay and The Dave Matthews Band. Her songs are included on four of the most popular iTunes Podcasts (Next Big Hit, Ampified Podcast, Indie Airplay, and Suite 108) as well as numerous online radio stations, including iChannel, Rockwired Radio, iRadio, and Live365 (Rockland USA, RevitalizedRadio[HITS]). Arden was recently an in studio guest on KCLA FM Los Angeles and KBCH FM Long Beach. She has also appeared on “Neuz Pollution” 88.9FM Los Angeles, UCLA Radio, and on “The Monday Show” iRadio Suite 108. In March of this year Rockwired Radio broadcast a one hour special devoted to Arden including songs from Quarter Life Crisis as well as an interview with Arden talking about how the album came about.

In the last few months Arden’s songs have been featured on numerous popular television shows including episodes of the WB network’s new shows Related and Pepper Dennis, several episodes of the NBC show Home Team, a recent episode of ABC’s Three Moons Over Milford, and upcoming episodes of MTV’s Real World and Road Rules. Her music can be downloaded in Starbucks Music Cafes nationwide as well as direct to your mobile phone on the Verizon V-Cast Music Service.

Over the past year Arden has played shows around the country gracing the stage of landmark venues such as The Roxy, The Viper Room and The House of Blues in Los Angeles, Martyrs’ in Chicago, The Living Room in New York City, and The Bluebird in Nashville. She just returned from touring the Midwest and is currently preparing an East Coast tour for Spring 2007.

Arden maintains contact with her growing fan base online at MySpace.com, and through her official website, www.ardenkaywin.com, which includes a fan forum, streaming music, videos, show dates, a photo gallery, Arden’s promotional E-Team, reviews, and a journal.
