HelenaMaria is comprised of identical twin sisters, Helena and Maria Mehalis, born and raised in New Jersey. They grew up in a free-spirited environment where artistic expression was always very important and highly encouraged. At the age of four, their parents discovered their interest for music. They began taking classical piano lessons and singing in their church choir.

However, it wasn’t until their sophomore year in high school when they took on the guitar, and songwriting came naturally. What started out as fun became a true passion of theirs. It became very obvious that the girls needed to step out and share their talent and songs with the public. They began performing at venues anywhere they could and as much as possible all over New Jersey, New York City, and Pennsylvania.

Blending pop, rock, and emotion, HelenaMaria’s unique style is embellished with harmonies that define their sound. Although the girls may be identical in looks, skills on the piano, and guitar, they bring slightly disparate characteristics in voice and songwriting. Their cover is blown, however, when one girl picks up the guitar because Maria plays left-handed, and Helena plays right-handed. The twins use their close bond as an advantage when it comes to playing music. “Having a close connection with my sister allows us both to really portray our music because we can tap into each other’s mind. That togetherness when we perform is so important because others can feel what we intended,” Helena comments.

Helena and Maria write songs to reflect a variety of feelings and topics. Maria explains: “Life experiences inspire me, but it’s also observations of what others are going through, which could be completely irrelevant to my life, that somehow affect me, as well as my sister.” Their songs reflect their emotional, creative, and playful sides while adding a distinct element of sophistication and maturity to each song. Although Helena and Maria may be young, they know what they are set out to do in life. Music is their energy; their passion; their release.
