Why you need to check ‘em out: They may have gone through lineup changes over the years since the Michigan punk rockers came together in 2002 but one constant still remains: Nick and Jonathan Diener. The brothers formed The Swellers in just a few days with original bassist Nate Lamberts and original no. 2 guitarist Nick Ondovcsik and started to play shows at unlikely venues like the Local 432 in nearby Flint, Michigan with their well-crafted take on modern punk rock. A stint on the Midwest/Canadian on 2005’s Warped Tour inked them a deal with indie stalwarts Search & Rescue Records and they nabbed their first international signing with another indie stalwart, this time Japan’s Radtone Music. Another lineup change soon followed thereafter as second changes Garrett Burgett and Lance Nelson both left to pursue other interests, this time enlisting the services of bassist Anto Boros, formerly of the Canadian pop/punkers Sydney and new guitarist Ryan Collins.
If you love your punk rock a lot, you need to check out the latest signing from Fueled By Ramen; their punk rock sound is well-crafted and well-executed…it might make the fathers of punk rock, The Ramones very proud indeed! Their new CD, Ups & Downsizing gets released Tuesday September 29 and you can catch the band as they settle into an opening slot on Paramore’s upcoming “brand new eyes” tour!
