In perfect timing, “The British are coming, the British are coming!” After eight years of catchy lyrics and spunky attitudes, the hunky Brits of McFly are finally making their way to the US. They’ve had dedicated fans fly from all over the US to the UK just to see them live and now they are finally repaying their American fans by doing a few shows here in the US. Even though, they are only doing two (in New York and Los Angeles), this is just a taste of what is to come in the future.
Their band name comes from the band’s love for the movie Back to the Future’s famous character Marty McFly. The band consists of Tom Fletcher (vocals/guitar), Danny Jones (vocals/guitar), Dougie Poynter (backing vocals/bass), and Harry Judd (drums). Many unfamiliar Americans might recognize this quartet from their cameo in the 2006 movie Just My Luck. Their music has evolved as they have grown. In the beginning, McFly’s music and first album Room on the 3rd Floor had a pop/punk feel. Now five going on six albums later it has developed into a more mature pop sound with collaborations with the likes of Taio Cruz and writing songs for boy band, One Direction.
It’s impossible to put eight years of accomplishments into one article to do this band justice. McFly was signed to Island Records under Universal Music Group in 2004 until December 2007 when they left and created their own indie label Super Records Ltd. The label is owned and operated by McFly. From hit singles to countless awards to TV appearances, the McFly men seem to have done it all across the pond. Their next goal: breaking through America! After eight years of anticipating, I can’t wait to finally see what I’ve been hearing through my ear buds live.
