The girls are out in full force in Nashville. The country music scene has recently received a list of fresh faced talented females who are determined to leave their mark.
And no one has made a greater first impression than Kacey Musgraves.
The 24 year old Mineola, Texas native has had a successful career debut and what seems to be a promising career in country music.
Musgrave is no stranger to performing. Starting at the young age of eight, she began publicly singing and then took up songwriting by the age of nine. Since then songwriting became a significant part of Kacey’s life and helped her gain recognition in the industry. Often using her own life experiences as inspiration behind songs, Musgraves brings a fresh honest take on lyrics.
In a time where star search reality shows showcased promising talent, Musgraves tried her luck on Nashville Star, which has helped launch the careers of prominent country artists like Chris Young. While only placing seventh on season five, Musgraves was not disappointed and realized the opportunities that would arise from her time on the show.
After making the move to Nashville, TN, Kacey joined Lost Highway Records, sharing a label with legendary country artists such as Hank Williams and Johnny Cash. After spending time opening up for famous country acts such as Loretta Lynn, Musgraves eventually signed with Mercury Records.
While still pursuing a solo singing career, songwriting never fell far behind. Musgraves has written and co-written many tracks for various country acts including Martina McBride and Miranda Lambert. “Mama’s Broken Heart”, a song cut by Miranda Lambert and co-written by Musgraves has been climbing the iTunes country charts, while “Undermine” a song co-written by Musgraves has been featured on the hit ABC television show Nashville.
The praises to Musgraves don’t stop there. The first single off of her highly anticipated debut album, Same Trailer Different Park, to be released on March 19th, has already set her up for success. “Merry Go ‘Round” has been critically acclaimed and Rolling Stones embraced it with four stars, naming it one of their “50 Best Songs of 2012”.
Kacey Musgrave has already been named “Best New Artists of 2012” by NPR and is in the running for New Female Vocalist at the 48th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards which will air on April 7th.
It’s not hard to see the talent that this new artist has. Her honest country storytelling lyrics and beautiful voice is already captivating fans. After hitting the road this year opening up for country superstar Kenny Chesney on his No Shoes Nation tour, it’s safe to say that we will be hearing a lot more of Kacey Musgraves.
