Country music is one of those genres that has a reputation. When someone says country music, several images come to mind. There’s that homegrown, banjo-pickin’ image. There’s an image of pickup trucks, fried chicken, and beer. But there is one idea that comes to mind when I think of country music, and that is family. It seems to be that country music is continuing its rich tradition of the importance of family and love for family. This can be seen in emerging new country artists such as brother duo Kingston and father-son-daughter trio, the Henningsens. Following in those same footsteps is new country trio, the Welch Brothers.
Three brothers, David, Nate, and Jonny Welch, originally from North Carolina, make up this new group whose music combines country, folk, gospel, and rock. Though originally from the South, the brothers lived in California for some time, a place that influences their unique sound.
“We have been on stage singing together for as long as I can remember,” says member Nate Welch, according to the band’s popular Facebook fan page. And it shows too! Their music features tight and beautiful harmonies that it seems like only family would be able to pull off.
The band writes all of their music, and their self-titled acoustic EP is available on iTunes and Spotify, featuring songs such as “Southern Moon” and “Takin’ A Sick Day.”
