Kenyon College is a small, but very influential liberal arts school in a small town in Ohio called Gambier. It is known as the alma mater of VCU head coach Shaka Smart, the late and legendary actor Paul Newman and How I Met Your Mother star Josh Radnor. One day, you may be able to add acoustic folk rock trio Poor Remy, who came together while studying at the small liberal arts school.
True to the genre as of late, the threesome spin stories about the world and their experiences around them but also as they say “framing this liberal arts experience as a self-portrait” and also offer a manifestation of their “most passionare observations about the world as an offering of ourselves.” This makes for a particularly unique, but powerful and emotional brand of acoustic folk-rock.
The threesome now ply their craft, unsigned in the vast musical jungle that is New York City, but they have played at venues like The Glasslands, Rockwood Music Hall and the Cameo Gallery. So, someone has taken a bit of notice for this apparently hidden gem…that YOU need to know about.
What is next for this trio? Their second EP Bitters is due out November 12th and that is followed by a release show at the aforementioned Rockwood November 13. Preceding all that is a key show November 5th at a showcase involving Ben Lovett (of Mumford & Sons fame)’s new label Communion Records. Things are indeed beginning to come together for this group and before you know it, you can indeed add three men of Poor Remy as among some of the most notable grads Kenyon has brought out to this world!
