The British invasion continues on in 2014 and 23 year old singer-songwriter John Newman is among the latest wave poised to crash on to the shores on this side of the Atlantic, bringing pop, 60s-inspired soul, classic rock and even some Big Beat and electronic along for the ride. The eclectic mix of genres is the result of his incredible musical journey growing up as he was fed a steady diet of his mother’s Motown and Northern Soul vinyl, then got into Led Zeppelin, Damien Rice, Ray LaMontagne and Ben Harper as a teenager. And then later on acts like Adele, Beyonce, and the late Michael Jackson.
Newman is already beginning to make his mark here on this side of the Atlantic, releasing his already hit debut CD Tribute (reached no. 1 in the UK and Scotland, Top-10 in Australia and Ireland) on January 7. It was also on that date America was introduced to him as he performed and wowed his way on “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.” It was more than enough to impress bandleader and Roots drummer Questlove.
What is next for this sure-to-breakout soul-pop singer? He will have a string of live shows coming up this spring and be sure to catch him in the US as he will be among the acts at Coachella and will start a tour March 27 in Washington, DC!
