They may well be England’s long-awaited answer to American music superstars Maroon 5 and we’ll see if they indeed are. But for now, Manchester foursome Rixton is ready to take their infectious brand of R&B-infused pop/rock (hence the Maroon 5 comparison) to the other side of the pond in North America!
Rixton is frontman/rhythm guitarist Jake Roche, backing vocalist/bass/keys Danny Wilkin, lead guitarist Charley Bagnall and drummer Lewi Morgan. The former two came together first through a mutual love of songwriting while Charley was introduced to them via a mutual friend. But it is Lewi’s backstory that is interesting; he was found upon by chance in the back alley of a Manchester pub plying his craft on pots and pans and was subsequently asked by the then trio to join them and complete the quartet. The group then used the power of YouTube with thrilling and innovative covers of some of music’s biggest hits and caught the eye of super-manager Scooter Braun (Justin Bieber, Madison Beer).
The group’s first track “Make Out” has seen over a million YouTube views but it is their first US single “Me and My Broken Heart” that could set the Manchester foursome on the fast track to pop superstardom. The reggae-influenced track is seeing some airplay in mid-major markets and the boys will be touring major US radio stations this month, including key stops in NYC and Boston. Their debut EP, also the name of their first US single comes out March 18 via Schoolboy/Interscope.
