One of the most interesting names in music was formed just over 6 months ago and translates to “family of small islands” is also one that very few have heard of and got caught in our Spotlight radar about a week ago. And we here on The Spotlight look to change that! Kin Cayo is the latest creation of former Ghost Lion frontman Blake Hanley (along with Enrique Lara, Mike Torres and The Californian’s John Graney) and continues his inclinations into the world of worldbeat, which combines world sounds with indie lo-fi rock. And in the case of Kin Cayo, it is an uber-creative combination of calypso leanings, a hint of Jamaican pure reggae, the percussive elements of percussive pop/rock and wrapped in a simplistic but elegant form of lo-fi pop.
Take one listen to new single “Our Ship” and you will see why The Spotlight makes that statement just above; this might be one of the sleeper hits of this year and no one will ever talk about it. But we will! Take a listen!
And finally, if you happen to be in SoCal, you can catch them live on Sunset Blvd’s Little Joy at 8 pm local time for a single release party for “Our Ship”!
