Who: Alabama Shakes
Where: Athens, Alabama
Sounds like: Janis Joplin, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, the Allman Brothers Band, Muddy Waters, Black Keys
Never has a combination of 70’s style arena rock, mid 20th century blues rock, pure blues and hints of gospel, southern-fried rock ever sound so good in 2015. And this quartet from Alabama has turned breakout into an art form; coming off an appearance at Lollapalooza a couple weeks back, nominated for three Grammys and a sophomore album even better than their first, which put them on the map in the first place. In addition, the group will be making their third appearance on Austin City Limits! And the cherry on the top? The first female fronted rock act to grab a no. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 without charting even one no. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100, a testament to the power and creativity that poured out of Sound & Color!
Like we said, never has this sound sooooo good in a long time! And who said rock music was dead?
Alabama Shakes begs to differ!
Want a taste of that power? Check out “Future People,” which was recorded and performed live from Capitol Records’ Studio A! Also a bonus, their recent performance on Conan August 12! Also catch them on tour through October 3 in the U.S. and then through November 19 in Europe!
