One To Watch: Sawyer Fredericks

By Alan Ho

As we close in on the end of the music year in 2015, we always get a group of solo acts and bands that cross our radar around this time that we try to peg as someone/something to watch for next year.  Just yesterday, indie rockers The Drama State became the first act we pegged as one to watch for next year.  And today, we’re going major label and big time here as The Voice Season 8 winner Sawyer Fredericks (Team Pharrell) takes his place alongside the Indiana indie rockers as the next one we are going to peg as…ONE TO WATCH in 2016!

The 16 year old Fredericks presents a sound rare in someone so young, a full-on display of what is described as “soulful, contemporary folk;” think of the lyrical sense of John Fogerty, Ray Lamontagne, the soulfulness of an Otis Redding and the modern accessibility of Phillip Phillips and early Mumford & Sons.  That is one hell of a combination for someone so young!

His story does not need to be told yet again but one thing is for certain, the kid who was plucked out of his family’s farm in upstate New York is going to go places very fast and he is one to watch as he will release his debut album in 2016!!!
