The Spotlight:

Chicago’s underground has brought out a fresh and smart sound known as Kidd Russell.  Though he has been making music since 2005, his break came in 2008 when he and Matt Jenkins got together and created Junkyard Productions.  Kidd Russell takes influence from growing up as an athlete as well as having athletic friends.  His music ranges from his unique style of hip hop to rock that will amp you up to deep and real to flirty and borderline raunchy.  Though he spans all of these styles of music, his personality comes through on every song as he puts his own spin on the lyrics and beats.  He sings about social issues such as violence, highlighted in the intense, Dear Shooter, and takes a comical look at life growing up in parts of Chicago in E. North Avenue on which he collaborated with Ross Golan of Glacier Hiking.  Last year, he released a full length album called Backyard Heroes on iTunes.  You can find out more about Kidd Russell on his website, http://www.kiddrussellmusic.com/ including tour dates and free music.
