Where: The Beat Kitchen, Chicago

As some of you may already know, Cassadee Pope of Hey Monday has decided to take on a solo project while Hey Monday is on a hiatus. I had the pleasure of seeing Cassadee Pope on her acoustic tour when she stopped in Chicago, IL on February 11, 2012. Darling Parade and Stephen Jerzak, who was on his first acoustic tour since 2009, opened the show.
Cassadee played a nice mix of Hey Monday songs and some new songs that she has written on her own. The show started off with two Hey Monday songs, ‘Wish You Were Here’ and ‘Hangover’. She then played two of her own songs ‘Prove You Wrong’ and ‘Secondhand Love’, both of which some of the audience members already knew the words to, thanks to YouTube and people and previous shows recording the new songs Cassadee played. ‘Candles’ was next and then a song titled ‘Lunatic’, which Cassadee co-wrote with Justin Young. Justin Young sung the song with Cassadee on some of the tour dates out west. The show had started off kind of slow, but picked up when Cassadee played ‘I Don’t Wanna Dance’ and ‘Homecoming’. She played another new song called ‘I Told You So’ and covered ‘Torn’, which was originally recorded by Ednaswap, but made famous by a cover by Natalie Imbruglia. Cassadee Pope then put down her acoustic guitar and sang ‘How You Love Me Now’, the crowd sang a long to every word and jumped up and down. Cassadee then invited her sister Ashley Pope on stage. Ashley Pope is also pursuing a music career and released her new EP “Broken and Complete” last fall. The sisters sang one of Ashley’s song called “Change”. Cassadee sang another one of her new songs, “My Best Friend Hates You”, and ended the night with “6 months”.
Overall, the show was very relaxed and Cassadee seemed very comfortable doing her own thing. I’m excited to see where Cassadee ends up going with her music. If you get a chance to go see Cassadee on her acoustic tour, I highly recommend you do so!
