As many may already know Breanne Düren as the female vocal in Owl City songs, she has stepped up to the plate with her very own EP, ‘Sparks’, and let me tell you… she did a fantastic job with this pop album. It is incomparable and you will feel yourself swaying along to its unique sound.
The album starts off with ‘Gold Mine’ which immediately brings that summery pop feeling with Düren’s sweet and soulful voice, the low bass, and handclap. ‘Gold Mine’ is a perfect song about a girl searching for something that will make her feel alive. ‘No One Else’ is the sweetest song on this EP. Düren brings sunshine and rainbows to the listener through this sweet love song. You can’t stop yourself from smiling while listening to this song. ‘Catapult’ has a Coldplay feel to it in the beginning which then merges into Düren’s soft voice that then entrances you in the chorus of this adventurous song. ‘Daydreams’ is the perfect song for the girls that end up daydreaming during class about that special boy. You know what I’m talking about.. those cheesy Disney-like daydreams that girls have of the boy she likes and all the wonderful emotions she feels when he’s by her and she is so certain that he is the one for her. Düren does a great job of portraying that in this song and making you sing along instead of blushing in embarrassment. The EP ends with a slow song, ‘Summer Days’, is all about that summer romance that you look back on and remember how great and carefree that love was back then. Düren sings about wanting to go back to the days back when she “never believed in love, the way she did in those summer days”. She turns a sad, heartbreaking topic into a sweet, lullaby-like song.
The beautiful, sweet, and simple lyrics mixed in with the perfectly constructed pop music makes ‘Sparks’ the perfect summer pop EP. I advise you to go out on a summer day, roll down your windows, and let Düren’s sweet and soulful voice fill up your heart. You’ll be smiling for hours. Breanne Düren brought her all with this unique pop album and she will blow you away.
