For those of you who haven’t heard of Cody Simpson, now is the time. This fourteen-year-old Australian sensation is about to take the U.S. by storm. While his first single “iYiYi,” which featured Flo Rida and his first EP 4 U held their own in the ways of popularity, his new EP Coast to Coast is set to blow that out of the water. He is certainly an act to look out for. The teen girls will love him and their parents will love that he’s their artist of choice. He is the ideal pop act and exactly what the U.S. needs.

The first song on the EP is “As Good As It Gets,” which, for fans of his music, is a sound that is different than his usual. While change is always welcome, this isn’t the “shining star” of the album. The concept and production of the song seem to blend in with many others in the recent music scene. Lyrics such as “I've been running all over town for ya/But I'm getting impatient girl” fail to make it stand out.

On a completely different end of the spectrum, “Crazy But True” is one hundred percent true to his style. What the lyrics of this song show is Cody’s talent for saying everything that all girls want to hear. He has what I like to call the “melt factor” and this song demonstrates that with lyrics such as “She’s got the kind of love that keeps me in a good mood.”

The first single off of the EP, “On My Mind,” is bound to get him some attention. Production-wise, it’s a very catchy song. There is a good amount of synth sounds to keep it fresh and interesting in the music scene. The sound is very different than other songs on the radio at the moment. In this sense, with this song in mind, he seems to be a step ahead of the game.

Cody then slows it down with the heart-melting “Not Just You.” If there were ever the right words to make a girl stay, they would include “Baby, it's not just you/You know it hurts me too/Watching you leave/With tears on your sleeve/Notice that mine aren't exactly dry.”

The next song on the EP is actually a re-release of “All Day,” which was originally released on his first EP 4 U. The catchy melody and blissfully simple lyrics are enough to make it an instant success.

The last, but definitely not least, song on the album is “Angel.” This song has more of a Jason Mraz feel to it in terms of style. The main focus of the production is on the acoustic guitar. Once again, Cody instates the “melt factor” with lyrics like “I must be in heaven/’Cause I’m looking at an angel.” This up-tempo song is the perfect way to wind down this album.

Overall, Coast to Coast is the ideal pop album. With this album, Cody is sure to capture the hearts of millions of teenage girls while taking the US by storm. Though people frequently compare him to Justin Bieber, it is very clear that he doesn’t need to ride Justin’s coattails to get where he needs to be. Cody Simpson has all the necessary talents to be a major success all over the globe. If you see Coast to Coast in stores, be sure to pick up a copy, you won’t regret it.
