Push Play released their newest album (with Wind-Up Records) “Found” on September 29, 2009. The guys have been promoting their music through iTunes, Myspace, WalMart, Napster, and others since 2008. Within listening to the first few songs on the album, I had already fallen in love with the group. The band, from what I’ve heard, has a great deal of potential. Their sound, however not quite unique, is still the same sound that teens love. It gives off that pop-punk vibe, and they’ve written songs that people can relate to. The songs are full of energy and they portray the musical talent we’ve been looking for.
The band begins their album with the track “Watch It Burn.” The vocals during the chorus very strongly remind me of Gerard Way from My Chemical Romance. The lyrics are strong, and the song is very up beat. It gives the listener a good feeling of what the rest of the album is yet to be like.
The second track, right off the bat, made me think of ‘N Sync. “Midnight Romeo” is a pop song that tells about a one-night stand. However, the message it’s sending isn’t positive, the song itself is of great musicality. It is a bit slower than the first track, but the lyrics are catchy and will instantly grab your attention.
Toward the middle of the album, they have a song called “Covergirl.” It gets more into a techno-pop feel, and its very similar to the song “17 Magazine” by Relient K. The song is cute, and with its buoyant personality, per say, you can’t help but want to sing along. The lyrics are innocent and I could just imagine a bedroom full of girls jumping around, dancing, and singing along with every word.
At the end of the album, the band slows it down a bit for more of a ballad than anything. “Where I Belong” instantly made an impact on my heart. The song is slow and by the time anyone is a senior in high school, they too, would love this song. Some of the opening lyrics are, “The days we spent together/The nights would last forever/But all good things must come to an end/Senior year is almost over/And I've never felt closer/To my friends who I can count on and depend.” This really tells what kind of audience they’re reaching out to. With my own experiences with senior year, I can really relate to this piece, determining my final opinion on the album.
My advice to you would be to go out and buy the album. Whether it be on iTunes or in stores. Give them a chance and you too could realize their amazing talent and one day they too could be in the same ranking as bands such as All Time Low and The All-American Rejects. |
